BROADFORD Amateur Theatrical Society is celebrating 30 years of fun and entertainment with the revival of a popular theatre spectacular, Peril at Purple Patch.Written and directed by Peter Henry, Peril at Purple Patch was a great success when it first hit the BATS stage in 1983.
Its latest revival features many of the group’s most experienced and favourite performers, along with some talented newcomers and is sure to entertain.
Set in the Purple Patch Guest House, in the Australian bush, the play has plenty of action and colourful characters in various disguises.
These characters create havoc for Annie, the straight-laced proprietor, as she welcomes the Prime Minister for a supposedly peaceful weekend.
There’s also Annie’s husband Arthur, whose drinking and gambling drives Annie into a fury, her brother Mervyn who is 27-years-old and yet to lay even a finger on a female, Molly the maid who dreams of love, a weird artist, a rock singer, a crazy cook and of course, the Australian Security Service, there to protect the PM.
Since its first production in 1980 BATS has presented more than 60 musicals, plays, pantomimes and revues for the Broadford and district communities and promises a pleasing performance.
Peril at Purple Patch will be showing in theatre restaurant style at the Shire Hall in Broadford on Friday, October 29, Saturday, October 30, Friday, October 5, and Saturday, November 6, at 8pm.
Patrons are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks.
