BROADFORD First XI cricketers defended their first innings total against Nagambie in round five of Seymour District Cricket Association’s A-grade competition on Saturday.
The Red and Black’s went into day two in a commanding position having amassed a total of 9/293 on day one thanks to a stellar century from James Ingham and strong performances from Nathan Blackwell 56 and Liam Collier 36.
Brayden Biggs had the best figures for Nagambie with 3/46.
In reply, Nagambie got off to a strong start through openers Tyrone Muir 62 and James Noonan 37.
A late stand from Michael Enrico 58 gave the visitors every chance, before they fell short at 229.
Matthew Irving and Mitch Collier did the damage fro Broadford with 5/53 and 3/53 respectively.
Broadford travel to Tallarook, while Nagambie host Eastern Hill this week.
Kilmore were not as lucky, faltering with the bat to be all out for 127 in reply to Tallarook’s first innings total of 137.
Travis Blackwell top scored with 28, while Leigh Irving 4/29 and Sam Watts 3/21 did the damage for Tallarook.
Kilmore take on Seymour this Saturday.
In other A-grade matches Alexandra defended its 193 total to defeat Seymour 159.
Mitchell Sanders and Ross Malcolm were handy with 2/21 and 2/31 respectively.
Eastern Hill 199 (J. Smith – Williams 31, Z. Jones 29, J. Smith 5/70 and J. Hinss 2/11) defeated Avenel 150 (S. Donovan 44, W. Wheeler 43, D. Fulco 3/8, T. Rudd-Schmidt 2/33)
B-grade
Kilmore seconds were too strong for Royals.
Kilmore won the toss and cruised to 6/143 cc with Sean Walsh and Simon Heather combining for a valuable 32 run partnership.
In reply, Royals crumbled to be all out for 78 off 28.5 overs.
Tony Maher 3/30, Martin Denney 2/7 and Brandan O’Donnell 2/11 all contributing.
Broadford had the bye.
C-grade
Seymour won the toss and batted first but were no match for Broadford to be 8/26.
Peter Ingham shined again with 3/2, ably assisted by Brenton Smith 3/14 and Matthew Muir 2/7.
Broadford cruised to 1/30 to take the points.
Kilmore won the toss and made 5/224 cc thanks to a stunning unbeaten 110 from Steve Kinnear.
In reply, Royals were all out for 117 with Nick Monaghan taking 3/19 and Patrick Harding 2/35.
Under 16s
Nagambie 6/134 cc (K. Winter –Irving 52) defeated Kilmore 74 (M. Gleeson 2/7)
Under 14s
Broadford won the toss and managed 7/88 cc with Cameron Berry top scoring with 30.
Bradley Reynolds and Luke Sevior dominated for Kilmore Gold with 3/9 and 2/3.
In reply, Kilmore Gold fell short at 5/71.
Avenel won the toss but fell for 9/40 under the might of Kilmore’s bowlers.
Nicholas Simons 3/5, Josh Buttler 2/4, Ben Cooney 2/4 and Jarrod Sawyers 2/14 all contributing.
In reply, Kilmore were 5/58 cc with Buttler backing up his bowling effort to top score with 25.
Avenel’s max Stevens took 3/7.
