THE Newspaper House Literary Competition is now officially open to all readers of The North Central Review, The Free Press, and the Whittlesea Review.
The competition, run by Newspaper House in conjunction with Kilmore publishing firm National Biographic, gives local writers the opportunity to have their work recognised.
As in previous years, the winner of the Open Section will have 50 copies of their book printed, bound and published by National Biographic, while the Junior Section winner will receive 25 copies of their book.
And in addition, this year there will be a special trophy for the Best Short Story.
Entries for the Open and Junior sections do not have to be novels.
Biographies, autobiographies, family histories, cookery books and other non-fiction works are all eligible.
The judging panel will be looking at readability, literary merit and originality.
The competition will close at the end of January, 2010, and all entries must be received by January 29, 2010.
Because of the competition’s popularity we have re-organised it on a more professional basis, and an official entry form must accompany each entry.
Entry forms are now available at Newspaper House and National Biographic.
If you submitted an entry for last year’s competition (which was cancelled due to the bushfires) you may leave it with us or take it back and re-write it or submit another entry.
An award presentation night will be held in March, 2010, which will also see the launch of the anthology of the best of the non-winning entries from the 2007/08 competition.
