BUSHFIRE survivors Mark and Kylie Collier will be celebrating Christmas in style thanks to Australian insurance company GE Money.Lilydale branch manager Suthan Sundarakumar presented the unsuspecting couple with a Christmas hamper and cheque for $1000 as thanks for their customer loyalty at their property on Wednesday.
The Collier family were chosen for their dedication to make monthly repayments on their Creditline despite losing their Heathcote Junction home in the February 7 bushfires.
GE Money had offered the family a repayment holiday to get their affairs in order; however they chose to continue making payments.
The Collier family have been GE Money customers for around 15 years and moved to their North Mountain Road property 10 years ago.
The family were fortunately in Rye at the time of the fires but returned to find their home, swimming pool and sheds were all destroyed in the Black Saturday bushfires.
Two neighbouring houses also perished in the flames.
The family are currently residing at Hidden Valley and are drawing up plans to rebuild an eco-friendly and fire safe home on their 20-acre property.
Mr Collier said a flagpole and a wooden seat made with two old wheels were the only things to survive and that the seat would remain on the property.
"This can stay here," he said, "I think we’re going to build around it."
Kylie, Mark and their sons Zane, Reid and Max would like to thank friends, family and the general community for their assistance since Black Saturday.
The family would also like to thank St Patrick’s Primary School, Assumption College, Father Rankin and the Catholic Church for their support and wish everyone a safe and merry Christmas.
