Every year, Andrew heads off like Indiana Jones, with his band of merry young men, each of whom will be put to the test in some way or other. They haven't yet walked Kokoda, however, they have trekked through other, just slightly more forgiving jungles in Borneo and Sumatra.
Every trip is seen as a privilege, not a right and without doubt, every trip is a challenge and part of each boy's right of passage to hopefully a more meaningful life. I have said in columns past, how lucky my siblings and I were to have been taught so many life skills by our parents.
We were also given to understand that those skills, together with a strong sense of responsibility towards others less fortunate than ourselves, was mandatory for a fulfilled and well-lived life.
