JAI Cameron has the gift of the gab.
The 12-year-old from Wallan is a keen radio show host at Kilmore’s OKR FM and Seymour FM and is now taking his talents to the next level.
He just returned from shooting the pilot of his new television series Go Here, Go There.
The 13-episode series is a travel and entertainment show aimed at the youth and is bound for Channel 31 (Channel 44 for digital) in June next year.
The show focuses on localities, entertainment and events available for youth and covers everything from music festivals to local theatre companies.
Following a similar style to popular travel show, Coxy’s Big Break, the first episode was shot in the Macedon Ranges, where Jai visited a local pony club, gymnasium and The Mount Players.
The show is being produced with the help of Syn and The Student Youth Network.
“The idea came from watching a lot of travel shows not devoted to the youth,” Jai said, “and there are some fascinating places around here.”
There are still 12 episodes to shoot but Jai is excited to see his ideas coming to the screen just like his idol, Rove McManus, who also saw his start on channel 31.
“It’s a good opportunity. A lot of good entertainers and TV hosts have come from there,” Jai said.
“It’s a good feeling you get when you put something like this together. It’s exciting to plan your own show.”
Jai recommended radio as a basis for anyone who wants to get involved with the entertainment industry.
“It’s a good way to build up your confidence and get your voice out there,” he said.
“Sometimes it’s good to have young presenters with fresh ideas.”
Jai got his first taste for radio with The Jai Cameron Show at Seymour FM last year and now shares his gift of the gab with OKR FM’s listeners with his show Hello.
“You need a lot of background and a lot of experience to work in film and entertainment,” he said.
“Working at the radio has given me some great interview opportunities. I’ve been enjoying every opportunity that’s come along.”
At just 12 years old Jai has already interviewed the likes of Shayne Byrne, the stars from Kath and Kim, and has even been in contact with Mark Holden.
Jai is also involved with the Assumption singing and dance programs, the junior drama company and the technology team.
He already has his sights set on a second series that could open up the possibility of some co-hosting and exploring new regions.
“The next series will be bigger and better,” he said.
Jai said he wouldn’t be where he his without his family backing him 100 per cent of the way and allowing him to achieve his dreams.
