NEW equipment to help train volunteer firefighters in Kilmore will be purchased with a $10,640 grant.
Member for McEwen Fran Bailey announced the grant last week and said the local brigade would use an allocation from the National Emergency Volunteer Support fund to buy audio-visual equipment.
"Our local volunteers were absolutely tremendous in the last fire season," she said.
"Their training and preparation helped them return safely to the fire station after Black Saturday and their skills saved the lives of many people on that tragic day.
"Better training equipment can only help in the preparation of volunteers for the next fire season that is now less than 80 days away."
