That's how Ian Stewart regards a high risk situation confronting trotting and thoroughbred trainers and their horses when using East Street to go to training facilities at the Kilmore Racing Complex.
He has been a trainer since 1973 in Kilmore, and maintains things are "getting worse" with more and more motorists ignoring the 50kph speed limit in East Street, often when they are rushing to the Kilmore East railway station.
Mr Stewart said he and other trainers are growing increasingly frustrated by what they consider to be lengthy delays by the shire.
"It's all right having meetings, consultants and reports, but something has to be done. I've complained to local police on several occasions about speedsters in this area."
Owner and assistant trainer John Croxford agrees with Mr Stewart there is a major safety problem along East Street, and sees the human element (as well as horses) deserving of consideration.
Kilmore Racing Inc. chief executive Michael Mooney said there have been a number of equine precinct issues up for discussion over the past couple of years.
He said the racing club certainly recognises there are safety issues along East Street as the result of speedsters.
"We haven't received advice (from the shire) about what is going to happen," Mr Mooney said.
'LINK ROAD'
Mitchell Shire Council's acting chief executive officer, Peter Halton, said yesterday the shire has been working towards safety solutions through the Kilmore Traffic Study.
It specifically addresses traffic movements in Kilmore.
Mr Halton is confident that local streets can be improved through new signage and other improvements, but East Street is a particular problem in that it is a wide 'link road', with traffic varying considerably in density -- form normal daily use to race days.
