THE Chair of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority (VBRRA), Christine Nixon, visited Kinglake last week to thank those who are helping make the Kinglake Business Hub a reality.
Ms Nixon was at the hub with the Chair of the Kinglake Ranges Business Network (KRBN) Brad Quilliam and representatives from the Tasmania Fire Service, the Salvation Army and Linfox, who have all contributed towards the hub.
"Following the fires, many who ran businesses from their homes no longer had a place of business," Ms Nixon said.
"As a result, the Kinglake Ranges Business Network, a community network of approximately 100 businesses, worked to establish a facility where they could access basic business tools such as phone, fax and personal computer and have a place where they could meet with clients."
She said that services including employment advice, business advisory and mentoring, financial and legal advice would be provided at the hub.
An administrator employed by the KRBN will manage the hub.
Ms Nixon thanked the people whose generous donations have made the hub possible.
"The Kinglake Business Hub is a wonderful example of how different groups have been able to come together to support and meet the needs of affected communities," she said.
Swinburne University donated a large unused portable, which was repaired and refurbished with an $80,000 donation from the Salvation Army.
The owners of a vacant parcel of land in the main street of Kinglake offered the use of the land, which is being leased by the Murrindindi Council for two years.
The Tasmania Fire Service donated $25,000, the efforts of a fundraiser, towards the office fit out, computers and other office equipment, while Linfox donated furniture.
A total of 285 personnel from the Tasmania Fire Service, 67 from Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Services and 59 from Forestry Tasmania assisted during the fires.
Tasmania Police and SES provided additional support and forensic assistance.
She said the hub would provide locals who are still considering rebuilding the chance to mix with other business people and access the infrastructure they need to do business, all within a manageable cost
"The business hub will act as a hive of activity for Kinglake and surrounding communities and go a long way in assisting during the recovery process."
