REPRESENTATIVES from Strathbogie, Murrindindi, Shepparton and Mitchell Shires gathered at Trawool Valley Resort to celebrate the launch of the new Mitchell Goulburn River and Ranges Official Visitors’ Guide.
The 64-page publication has been completely re-written and revamped with a broad range of product showcased in a combined approach to promote tourism in the area.
Mitchell Shire Council CEO Bill Braithwaite said the visitors’ guide was a new and exciting development within the shires.
He said that the Mitchell Shire has often struggled from a tourism perspective by being aligned with Macedon Ranges.
He said the sign on the freeway indicating that motorists are entering Macedon Ranges and Spa Country "always makes him laugh."
Mr Braithwaite said Mitchell Shire and the surrounding district have many unique attractions that are all facets in the gem that is the region of Victoria.
"Our new official visitors’ guide really captures the shine and sparkle of that gem," he said.
Visitors Information Guide Designer Jo McInnes said previously locals have questioned whether the area has much to offer in regards to tourism."We must remember that visitors want something different … and we have something that other areas can’t offer," she said.
Member for Seymour Ben Hardman said the State Government was pleased to provide a $20,000 grant for the four shires to take part in a united approach to a tourism study.
Mr Hardman highlighted some of the region’s unique features including the Kilmore Celtic Festival, the Goulburn River and the racing industry among others.
