MUSIC sensation Maddie and Alexa played live to air on Kilmore radio station OKR FM on Monday.
The duo, Madeline Acosta, 22, and Alexa Nania, 21, from Melbourne, featured on Kilmore radio presenter Greg Boots’ 7pm program.
The pair describes their sound as acoustic pop and says their style has been influenced by numerous people in the industry including The Killers, Alicia Keys and even Patsy Klein.
Alexa, who plays guitar and keyboard, grew up in a musical family and by the age of 10 she was learning classical piano. She didn’t pick up a guitar until mid-high school when she began to write her own songs, heavily influenced by instrumental and rock music.
Madeline had lessons from the age of 11 at the Johnny Young Talent School and worked with bands throughout school and auditioned for local competitions.
Madeline and Alexa’s first gig together was just over a year ago.
“We wrote a song for a wedding and then started playing together and we found that it worked,” Madeline said.
The pair released an EP of original songs with a newly formed band this month.
Madeline recently auditioned for popular television program The X-Factor, and although she couldn’t reveal too much about the series, she said it’s been a great experience.
“I auditioned to see the other side of music,” she said.
“It gives you exposure and you get to meet new people.”
Mr Boots was delighted to interview the talented pair and have them play live on air.
“I’m very pleased to have them here,” Mr Boots said.
“It’s good to have someone live instead of playing a CD.”
Maddie and Alexa enjoyed their time in Kilmore and have also donated their time for a fundraiser to assist the radio station at the Royal Oak Hotel in Kilmore later in the year.
