WALLAN First XI is in a strong position following day one of round five in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association’s McIntyre Cup competition on Saturday.
The Magpies restricted Macedon to 155 through the stellar bowling efforts of Steven Bell 4/48 and Brenton Hanson 3/27 and were 1/20 at the close of play.
Nick Dodd top scored with 45 for Macedon.
In other McIntyre Cup grade matches, Sunbury United are chasing Rupertswood’s 162, after a fine performance from James Hughes saw him take 6/42.
Brendan Buckley top scored with an unbeaten 39.
United are 1/1 with Hughes falling for an lbw.
Riddell are struggling in reply to Bacchus Marsh’s total of 120 at 6/29, with Mark Hooper starring with 3/7.
Scott Wakefield top scored with an unbeaten 54.
Romsey are 7/53 in reply to Woodend’s 146.
Andrew Pendlebury dominated for the Redbacks with 4/26, while D. Cuinik was unbeaten on 41 for Woodend.
B-grade
Wallan seconds are 2/26 in reply to Sunbury’s 147. Trevor Frost and Brett Keenan took 4/30 and 3/14 respectively.
Sunbury’s Patrick Tyler made 42 before falling to an lbw decision.
E-grade
Wallan thirds are in a commanding position in their match against Sunbury United.
United won the toss, however Wallan’s David Fowler and Scott Gilchrist cut a swathe through the side’s line-up with 3/3 and 3/27 respectively.
John Stark top scored with 24 for United’s total of 83.
In reply, Wallan are 3/103, with Donald Furber unbeaten on 24.
H-grade
Wallan took the points when Tylden forfeited the match.
