MITCHELL Shire Council, in conjunction with Mitchell Community Health Services, the Centre Active Recreation Network and Valley Sport, will be hosting an All Abilities to celebrate the International Day of People with a Disability.
A host of interactive come and try activities and displays will be on show for people of all abilities, including talks presented by all-abilities athletes.
Wheelchair Sports Victoria will conduct wheelchair basketball demonstration matches and then give expo participants the opportunity to try a game of basketball from a wheelchair.
Deputy Mayor and Access and Inclusion Committee chairperson Cr Sue Marstaellar said that the expo will provide a great opportunity for the community to come together and increase their awareness of the opportunities and services that exist for people with disabilities.
The expo will be held from 9am until 2pm on Tuesday November 24 at the Wallan Multi Purpose Centre and RB Robson Stadium in Bentinck Street.
A theatre arts workshop will be conducted throughout the day, with participants guided by professional artists, actors and support workers.
"The workshop explores how people with and without disabilities can work together using innovative visual and performing arts techniques, to devise their own inclusive theatre piece," Cr Marstaellar said.
The expo will conclude with the theatrical finale presentation at 1.30pm.
Better Hearing Australia will conduct hearing screenings and a host of other displays and stalls will be provided.
The Wandong-Wallan Lions Club will provide a free sausage sizzle, and there will be plenty of giveaways throughout the day.
Entry and participation in all activities is free.
