Mrs Petrovich is concerned that the need for a major fuel load reduction campaign along country roads was not addressed at all.
"Just over two months away from the next fire season this is the single most important issue that must be addressed.
"In light of the Premier’s statements that Victoria will be facing more dangerous conditions than last season, it is crucial that we work towards reducing whatever risks are facing us.
"We need country Victoria to be a safer place, learning from the past mistakes and oversights.
Mrs Petrovich, a member of Parliament’s Environmental and Natural Resources Committee (ENRC), has been a strong campaigner on these issues.
In July last year the ENRC recommended that the DSE triple its prescribed burns to at least 380,000 hectares.
The report also found that to lessen the impact of more frequent and intense fires, as predicted by climate change projections, a substantial and sustained increase in resources to conduct preventative activities is required.
Last month Mrs Petrovich called on the Government to show some real leadership and get vegetation management programs along roadsides happening now.
"With the next fire season on our door step, dried-out vegetation remains a real threat and a time bomb waiting to go off again.
"To date the Government has failed to follow the ENRC’s recommendations to dramatically increase controlled burning.
"I understand it is a fine balance between protecting the environment and protecting our property and lives.
"I am a strong advocate for fuel reduction programs and believe through ‘cool mosaic burning’ this can be done while remaining sensitive to the environment.
"We need to provide a setback for roadside trees and remove dangerous overhanging tress and the dead and fallen trees," Ms Petrovich said.
