VOTERS in the Seymour electorate are being bombarded with multi-million dollar promises as both major parties try to secure the must-win seat in this Saturday’s State election.
More than $170 million of commitments have been made to improve roads, local infrastructure and health services in the region.
Funding for community projects has also been announced by both Labor and the Coalition.
Yesterday, the Coalition added another $10 million to the tally, saying it would provide 30 extra beds at the Kilmore Hospital if they win the election.
Shadow Minister for Health David Davis visited the hospital yesterday morning and said new consulting rooms for specialist doctors would also be placed at the hospital as part of the package.
“The Coalition’s plan will provide 50 per cent of the funding for the $20 million Kilmore Hospital upgrade and support the hospital’s application to the Commonwealth (government) health and hospitals fund for further resources,” Mr Davis said.
Liberal candidate for Seymour Cindy McLeish said the funding would also improve existing services at the hospital, including midwifery and acute medical services.
But it wasn’t just the Coalition making big announcements yesterday, with Labor jumping back on the political promise bandwagon early in the afternoon.
Premier John Brumby joined district MP Ben Hardman at the Seymour Bowls Club, announcing funding for four separate projects in the electorate, including $250,000 for the stage two construction of the Broadford RSL.
Labor would also spend $1 million on a rail trail between Tallarook and Seymour, $500,000 on upgrades to the Seymour Sports and Aquatics Centre and $400,000 on refurbishment of the Seymour Bowls Club clubhouse, if they are re-elected.

Labor would also provide $2 million per year to staff the depot, Mr Hardman said.
Labor’s other big ticket promises include:
$2 million for the Seymour and District Memorial Hospital for four extra chemotherapy chairs.
$500,000 for improvement works to Broadford’s Harley Hammond Reserve.
Almost $800,000 to provide Saturday Bus services in Kilmore, Hidden Valley and Wallan.
New fire stations for Reedy Creek and Wandong, and 70 more car parking spaces for the Wallan train station.
The Coalition has also promised to spend up big on the region, promising:
$130 million to fund a road bypass of Kilmore and Wallan.
$200,000 for a soccer oval at Wallan Secondary College
$4 million over four years to both Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires, and a $100,000 extension to the Seymour Youth and Fitness Club.
Both parties have also pledged more than $1 million in funding to construct Seymour’s Vietnam Veterans Walk
Seven candidates will stand for Seymour at this Saturday’s election.
