THE Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society Show promises fun for the whole family this year with an exciting range of displays and activities.
The Show will again be one for all the family and a chance to learn about farm life and production, sustainable land and water management and the opportunity to get up close and personal with cows, sheep and livestock.
This year the Seymour show has several new horse sections for competition and is for the first time hosting the Central Victorian Axemen’s Association for a new Wood Chop competition.
There will also be plenty of events for the kids to enter including cooking, art and photography, needlework and craft, flowers and creative writing for grade five and six students.
Other competitions include best utes and motorbikes, dog agility, Miss Show Girl, Tiny Tots and Rural and Junior Ambassador.Dog lovers are encouraged to take part in the VCA Dog Show, watch the Dog High Jump, or even enter the Dog and Ute competition.
There will also be plenty of displays, talks and discussions including those from Mitchell Shire Council, DPI, BlazeAid, Landcare, CMA, BEAM, Waterwatch, CFA and GVW.This year’s theme is the Road to Recovery, largely to highlight local service organisations and their contribution to the community.
The co-ordinator of BlazeAid, Kevin Butler, will be officially opening this year’s event.
There will talks and discussions held on fire protection, whole farm planning, water management in drought, land management, and Kevin Butler will speak about the BlazeAid experience.
Seymour Agricultural Society President John Dalziel said the theme of this year’s show gives the community the opportunity to congratulate all those involved in bushfire efforts during and after Black Saturday.
"This year the Show’s theme is the Road to Recovery, to highlight our service organisations and their contribution to our community," he said.
"The terrible day of February 7 and the days following saw our volunteer fire-fighters rise far above the call of duty in unprecedented and horrifying circumstances.
"The wider community also rallied in many ways … people were so generous with their support, and donations ... our thanks go to all those who willingly assisted.
"Many of our members were also involved with fighting the fires at the front line, or assisted with communications, and later, relief efforts.
"Thanks to you all - the Show visitors who make up the atmosphere of fun and discovery and thanks to all those who have supported the Show so consistently over the years.
"Whether you come for the Show bags and sideshows, to learn more about agricultural Australia, or to meet up with old friends, you are sure to once again enjoy our wonderful Show," Mr Dalziel said.
The Agricultural Association started in the Seymour area in 1858 and has been producing successful shows since September 28, 1859.
The Seymour Show will be held at King’s Park, Tallarook Street, Seymour on Saturday, October 3 from 8.30am to 4pm.
