THE Lancefield Agricultural Show held in ideal conditions on Sunday attracted thousands of people, with attractions many and varied.
"We are one of the very few country shows that are growing, society secretary Kate Coulter said later.
"We really feel strongly that our role is to promote and demonstrate agriculture in our region."
Ms Coulter said gate takings from the show were in the vicinity of $14,000.
In the space of two years, attendances at the Lancefield Show have shown a strong upward trend.
"Our gate was up 32 percent on last year, when that showed a 21 percent increase on the previous show," the secretary said.
"In some ways, the Lancefield Show has become a bit like a big English country fair...it's a family focused show.
"Next year will be the 25th annual show and we really want to make it something special," Ms Coulter said.
Chairman of Victorian Agricultural Shows Ltd -- the umbrella organisation for agricultural societies across the state -- visited Lancefield on Sunday and indicated he was very impressed with what he saw.
The Lancefield Park is an ideal venue for such a show, and horse exhibitors who used the area to the south where the trotting track is located were pleased to be able to use about 100 acres of John McCarthy's farmland for parking, and to warm-up their horses prior to judging.
Mayor of Macedon Ranges Shire Council, John Letchford, officially opened the show.
Cr Letchford said the show is an important landmark event for the region.
He said Lancefield is a small, but very important town, in the Macedon Ranges, and the show plays an important part in its activities each year.
The mayor welcomed all visitors and competitors, and wished the agricultural society well for the future.
District MP Joanne Duncan said she is really pleased to see the show going from strength to strength.
A full page feature on Lancefield in the Traveller section of last Saturday's Age newspaper helped in the wider promotion of the show.
