WHILE Mitchell Shire is still officially part of the Macedon Ranges & Spa Country tourism region, it may only be a matter of time before there is a change.
The sign above is located beside the Hume Freeway, between Tallarook and Broadford, and on Monday it came in for an honourable mention from Mitchell council's chief executive officer, Bill Braithwaite.
He was speaking at the launch of an impressive 64-page promotional booklet Mitchell Shire and the Goulburn River and Ranges region.
Mr Braithwaite told the tourism-orientated gathering at Trawool that Mitchell has often struggled from a tourism perspective by being aligned with Macedon Ranges.
He said the sign on the freeway indicating that motorists are entering Macedon Ranges & Spa Country "always makes me laugh".
Mr Braithwaite said that Mitchell has no affinity with Macedon Ranges & Spa Country -- rather the municipality is closely linked with the Goulburn River.
Mitchell has linked up with the Murrindindi and Strathbogie shires, and the City of Greater Shepparton, in a newly formed tourism promotion group.
Mr Braithwaite said Mitchell, and the Goulburn River and Ranges district, have a wealth of interesting features and unique attractions, all of which are facets in the gem that this region of Victoria truly is.
"Our new official visitors' guide really captures the shine and spark of that gem," he said.
He said that through the hard work and expertise of those who were involved in the creation of the visitors' guide, a grand
proclamation of the superb tourism incentives for the Goulburn River and ranges region has been achieved.
Mr Braithwaite aid what truly makes the region special and worth visiting are the peoople and the communities.
He said the vast diversity of projects, events, businesses and attractions of all price ranges, shows that Mitchell Shire has something to offer visitors of all age groups.
