WALLAN First XI are in a strong position following day one of Gisborne District Cricket Association's round eight played last Saturday.
Having won the toss against Macedon the Magpies were 9/217 cc at the close of play with Andrew Bott the standout with 65.
With Wallan's Brenton Hansen, Brett Keenan and Steve Falla proving dangerous with the ball lately,
the Magpies will hope to restrict the home side and take advantage of a weekend forecast that does not foresee rain for the first time in a month.
An in form Riddell side were able to restrict Bacchus Marsh to 171 with Max Scott 3/24 and Cameron Clayton 3/52 the best of the bowlers.
Riddell were 1/7 at stumps on day one with Ryan Hughes an early dismissal for one.
Romsey's B. Tonkin dominated against Gisborne's batsmen with figures of 4/36. Gisborne were all out for 127,with Romsey 0/5 at stumps on day one.
Sunbury United made short work of Rupertswood, dismissing the visitors for 101. Nathan Morse was the best of United's bowlers with figures of 3/9.
United were on the backfoot at 3/49 following a strong spell from Rupertswood's Heath Boffey with 3/15.
B-grade
Wallan's B-grade side will have a battle on their hands chasing the strong 9/284 cc amassed by Sunbury.
Despite commanding bowling performances from Trevor Frost 4/42 and Craig Cumberland 3/57, Sunbury were too strong and surged ahead to set itself up with a strong first innings score, with P. Schulz 86 and P. Tyler 67 the best scorers.
E-grade
Wallan's thirds will fight out its second innings against Macedon this Saturday. The Magpies are 35and 4/33 to Macedon's 2/66 dec.
Macedon's N. Watson was unbeaten on 44 at the end of their first innings.
O. Clough 3/6 and Watson 3/12 made short work of Wallan's batsmen.
H-grade
Wallan's fourths will continue to chase Bacchus Marsh's total of 86, when play resumes in H-grade today.
The Magpies were 3/20 at stumps on day one with A. Thompson the stand out for Wallan with 3/12.
