A HORRIFIED Kilmore mother says she will think twice before letting her children play at a local skate park after a teenager pierced his lip in front of them last Saturday.
Fiona Dixon and her three children aged five to 17 were at the annual Kilmore scout market at Hudson Park when the youth took to his lip with a pin on the skate ramps.
Mrs Dixon, who only moved to Kilmore 18 months ago, said more than 20 children were playing near the skate ramps when the incident happened.
“All three of my children were there - actually there were a lot of kids around,” she said.
“I was cooking a barbecue in the park and I could see a big crowd of kids at the skate park.
“I figured someone had hurt themselves but then the kids came up and told me what had happened.
“They said that his friends were all shoving their hands in his mouth.
“My children told me that there was blood everywhere and he fainted but pretty soon after he was up riding around again.”
Mrs Dixon said she and her children left the park soon after the teen’s gruesome stint and reported the matter to police.
“There’s nothing that they can do,” she said.
A spokesperson for Kilmore Police said while the teenager’s behaviour a concern, he had not broken the law.
He said while many people may have found the teenagers actions offensive, it would be hard to charge him.
“We’re bound by courts; we have to be able to prove that people were offended,” he said.
“It’s hard to draw the line.”
Mrs Dixon said she no longer felt comfortable letting her children go to the skate park.
“I’m very dubious about sending my kids down to the skate park again,” she said.
“What is this world coming to when an 18 year old youth thinks it is OK to pierce his lip in front of children?”
