THE Seymour Show will go ahead as planned, according to the State’s leading show authorities.
The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) and Victorian Agricultural Shows Limited (VASL) last week released a joint statement confirming that amusements, rides and showbags will be available for the Seymour Show, despite an overlap in dates with the Royal Melbourne Show.
“In August 2010, the RASV formally advised VASL of the future 2011 to 2015 dates for the Royal Melbourne Show and in September 2010 VASL informed all country show societies of these dates,” the statements said.
“The Royal Melbourne Show is traditionally conducted in the September school holidays.
“In 2011, Easter is later in the year and consequently the school terms have been adjusted. “The 2011 Royal Melbourne Show is scheduled to run from Saturday, September 24 to Tuesday, October 4.
“VASL approves the dates for Victorian country shows each year, and noticing that 10 shows overlapped with the Royal Melbourne Show in 2011, VASL offered each organisation the opportunity to change their dates.
“VASL was also aware of the AFL Grand Final being held a week later than usual.
“Informed of the date overlap more than 12 months in advance of their own events, all societies decided to retain their original dates, including the Seymour Agricultural Show which is set to take place on Saturday, 1 October 2011.
“VASL has negotiated with the Victorian Showmen’s Guild to support the country shows by ensuring the attendance of amusements, rides and showbags as usual,” the statement said.
