A TRUCK carting animal carcasses through Kilmore and Wallan was seen unwittingly spraying motorists with a putrid liquid on Friday.
Countless drivers were left to wipe the foul smelling liquid from their vehicles.
Kilmore resident Damien Malvaine was just one of the many motorists caught in bloody shower.
Mr Malvaine was driving to Broadmeadows from Kilmore for work when he noticed a foul stench and liquid over the road.
“I was in Sydney Street driving south and noticed a very offensive odour in the air,” he said.
“As I approached the intersection of Powlett Street and Rutledge Street, I noticed a large wet stain in the left hand south bound lane at the intersection.”
He said a truck had stopped at the traffic lights and spilt liquid on the road.
“The odour was extreme and I noticed other motorists looking curiously in some discomfort,” Mr Malvaine said.
“As I looked further down the road I observed the open top semi-trailer dropping liquid on the road as it passed through Kilmore.
“Many cars were sprayed with droplets of the liquid as they passed the truck. This continued for the entire time I observed the truck. Countless cars were affected.”
Mr Malvaine followed the truck to the Craigieburn bypass and stopped to report the incident to police and the Environment Protection Authority.
“I didn’t take kindly to this happening in my town,” he said.
“It is a sad truth that trucks transport all kinds of freight through our town at all times of the day and night.”
Kate Gittings, of EPA Victoria, said that while a report was filed on the offence it is still too early to tell if the driver will be fined.
“Under the Environment Protection Act (1970), the EPA can fine or issue a warning to the vehicle’s driver under the EP Act’s litter provisions, which includes liquid, provided the person reporting the incident lodges a litter report which includes signing a statutory declaration,” she said.
“Fines for litter from motor vehicles are up to $239.”
“It is too early to say what the resulting action will be with regards to this matter.”
Motorists are encouraged to report such incidences to EPA Victoria on 9695 2722.
