A NUMBER of remembrance services will take place this weekend to mark the one-year anniversary of Black Saturday and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the fire storm.
Wandong: All residents are invited to a memorial service at LB Davern Reserve beginning at 9am. A hot breakfast will be available upon arrival.
Kilmore: The Kilmore Anglican Church will hold a bushfire commemorative service this Sunday at 9am.For more information contact Kilmore Anglican Church Churchwarden Glen Turnbull on 0409 287 359.
Broadford: The Broadford Hotel will hold a free barbecue on Sunday from midday. All welcome.
Strath Creek: A short commemorative service will be held at the Strath Creek Pioneer Reserve at 8.45am followed by breakfast. For catering purposes please advise of your attendance via email to or call 57849388.
The Strath Creek Church will hold a memorial service at 11.30am. All are welcome.
Kinglake: Kinglake West Hall Committee will open the site for a garden of reflection on behind the Kinglake West Mechanics Institute on Saturday February 6 and Sunday February 7 from 10am until 4pm.
Plans for the garden, which is being designed by locals and NMIT students will be unveiled at the opening.
Victorian Governor David de Krester will visit the site on the Sunday.
An art show will also be held by the King Lake Ranges Arts Alliance in the Mechanics Hall at the same time.

Kinglake West Uniting Church’s remembrance service will be held at 10am on Sunday, February 7 and Forest Hill Uniting Church will provide morning tea.
Kinglake West Uniting Church open church service will be held from 11am and throughout the day to provide the community and visitors the opportunity to join with others to chat and quietly reflect on the first anniversary.Refreshments will be served and a reflective power-point presentation will be played to display the past 12 months. The 15-minute presentation will include historic photos.All are welcome.
Whittlesea: Church services will be held in the morning, a commemorative plaque will be on display at the Whittlesea Community Activity Centre for people to pay their respects and the Whittlesea Cricket Club is holding a 20/20 cricket match and family day at Walker Reserve in the afternoon.
Whittlesea Swim Centre is hosting Penny’s Carnival to celebrate the life of former swim instructor Penny Chambers who died in the Black Saturday bushfires.
Penny’s Carnival will be held at the Whittlesea Swim Centre at 50 Walnut Street on Sunday, February 14 from 10am to 4pm.
A special tribute to everyone who died in the bushfires will take place at 12.30pm with the release of yellow balloons.
Activities on the day will include pool inflatable, pony rides, a farm animal petting zoo, jumping castle, fairy floss, a magician, face painting, gladiator ring, rock climbing wall and raffle, with music from the Victorian Police Band.
All day entry is by gold coin donation and funds raised from entry, donations and raffle will go towards the Bushfire Appeal and the Bushfire Wildlife Appeal.
