AS PART of a State Government-funded recording project, nine young Victorian artists, including one from Lancefield, had the opportunity to have their voices heard on a new compilation CD.
Months of work resulted in the launch of Naked in the Woods, an album featuring some of Victoria’s most promising up-and-coming female talents, with the support of professional artists such as Little Birdy’s Katy Steele, and ARIA award nominated Jen Cloher.
A Victorian Government initiative, Naked in the Woods is the work of the Victoria Rocks – FReeZACentral Program, and is funded by the Department of Planning and Community Development and managed by The Push, and was showcased at the Playhouse at Melbourne’s Arts Centre at the beginning of the month.
Youth Affairs Minister James Merlino said the all-female affair is aimed at supporting young Victorians as they forge a career in the music industry.
"We are working hard to help young people reach their potential, assisting talented young people to get their start in the challenging and competitive music industry."
"This year over 5000 young people attended a series of free workshops funded by the Brumby Government, that focused on key training areas such as performance, technology, event management, music business operations, marketing and promotions," Mr Merlino said.
"From this 54 talented young people were selected to join the FReeZACentral Mentoring Program and participate in one-on-one mentoring with a professional in the music industry."
The completed album features 19 tracks, including nine from the young women, eight tracks from the mentors, and one from band Little Birdy, whose front woman Katy Steele is featuring in a FReeZACentral Tour.
Lancefield’s Milly Moodie is one of the artists featured on Naked in the Woods with her track Black Coffee.
Milly began her musical life at the age of seven and, now 21, has gained a wealth of experience. She received national recognition as a singer at the age of 17 when she was a finalist on Australian Idol, making it to the top eight before being eliminated.
Milly participated in the Naked in the Woods tour, which did three shows around Victoria beginning at the end of last month, and launched her own EP ‘To Whom it may Concern’ in June.
