THE Toobelong Circus performed to a packed house at the Heathcote RSL Hall on Wednesday, September 8.
The children of Pyalong and Tooborac Primary Schools joined forces to put on a spectacular circus show, with all students from prep to grade six getting involved.
The kids honed their skills practicing with Circus Oz for months before opening night and blew the audience away with their enthusiasm and talent.
Louise Walter, a teacher at Pyalong Primary School and the Circus’ project co-ordinator, was overjoyed at the level of performance the students achieved.
“It was fantastic, the kids really rose to the occasion and I think they even impressed the circus crew” she said.
The story followed a stowaway child’s journey through exotic countries including China, Indonesia and India.
Throughout the show the students performed a number of circus skills and dance numbers combining spin sticks, juggling, acrobatics and a Bollywood scene.
The show’s beautiful costumes were another standout with sparkles, sequins and traditional robes adding another dimension to the performance.
Live music accompanied the show, played by the students on the drums, cymbals, recorder, guitar, violin, glockenspiel, tambourines and an authentic Indonesian instrument known as an angklung.
Ms Walter would like to make special mention of music teacher Bianca Maes, who not only created all of the music for the performance but also volunteered her time to tutor the young musicians.
Ms Walter believes that Bianca’s contribution, along with the efforts of many others and the dedication of the students, is what made the night such a success.
