WHETHER it’s his strong connections in the entertainment industry or his natural flair for radio, Jai Cameron of Wallan never fails to impress when he takes to the microphone at OKR FM.
In his latest return to the Kilmore airwaves, he has transformed his radio show Hello and given it a new name - Pump it Up.
“It’s going to have a new time, a new attitude, new music and a new format,” Jai said.
One of the main attractions of the show is the level of involvement from young people in the community.
The show, run by and for young people, will feature a new young co-host each week, fresh topics and music from the charts.
“We’ve done a lot of research into the music,” Jai said.
“We’ve looked at what’s popular at the ARIAS, what’s on the top of the charts in Australia and America, and some local music.”
Jai promises exclusive interviews, including those with Hollywood star Robin Williams, George Miller and the main cast of Australian film Big Mamma’s Boy.
He has had the chance to view some soon-to-released movies, stage musicals and some of the latest television shows yet to air in Australia.
Jai said he has even been in touch with Ronan Keating’s and Taylor Swift’s managers.
“2012 is a big year for me and for anyone who’s going to be involved in the show,” he said.
There will be opportunities to win free passes to shows and events. In the first show, Jai is giving away a free family pass to the Sesame Street stage show in Melbourne.
In a move to improve ratings and raise interest of younger generations, OKR’s manager Mark Perrot is keen to see the show extend for an extra half hour.
Jai said he is putting a lot of time and focus into Pump it Up. He has even cut down his Seymour FM shows and has put filming the rest of his upcoming television show Go Here, Go There on hold.
The youngster has maintained an interest in radio and television since an early age and began his first radio show aged 11.
“I was always a loud and talkative person,” he said.
“Radio is something that has intrigued me and it’s something I can see myself doing a lot of.”
Pump it Up is going to air on Tuesday, February 14, from 4pm to 6pm.
