THE Corstens’ stable struck again at the weekend.
The Leon Corstens part-owned and trained Reflex ($5) made it back-to-back wins in taking out the 0-62 Handicap (1400m) at Wangaratta’s transferred meeting to Tatura last Saturday.
The four-year-old son of Royal Academy and Flint Star was coming off a Ballarat win last month.
He was beautifully ridden by Matthew Allen, who had the gelding in third and fourth spot until the turn, where he secured a rails run and kicked clear punching his charge to the line to defeat Snake In The Grass ($6.50) by ¾-length, with 25-1 pop Better Not Cry a further 1-3/4 lengths away third.
Reflex was purchased by the trainer’s son, Troy, for $38,000 at the Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sales and subsequently syndicated the colt to stable clients including himself.
The gelding is proving a cheap purchase for the owners, almost recouping his purchase price with two wins and four minor placings from 13 starts.
Seymour’s thoroughbred festival coming up
Seymour Racing Club is gearing up for its annual Victorian Country Thoroughbred Festival on Sunday,August 23.
The club is hoping for better weather than last year when the meeting was unfortunately washed out.
The day will showcase all things thoroughbred, featuring studs, industry suppliers, local wineries and gourmet food producers together with terrific racing. It’s one event you won’t want to miss.
The Expo is designed to showcase and promote the Victorian country thoroughbred industry. It includes studs, machinery, fencing, pasture, feed consumables, racing syndications, bloodstock services and more.
As one of the nation’s most vibrant industries and largest employers, the festival will also highlight some of the many career pathways available within the Australian Thoroughbred Industry.
The race day will feature the Chatswood Vase Inglis Bonus Series 3YO Handicap of $100,000* which also carries a Super Vobis bonus of $30,000.
*If nominated to the $2,500,000 Inglis Race Series, a $50,000 bonus will be paid by William Inglis & Son to the winner of this race.
Renaming launch at Kyneton
The newly-formed Kyneton and Hanging Rock Racing Club will launch the renaming of the Kyneton Racecourse – now named NMIT Kyneton Park -- at its first race meeting of the new season on Tuesday, August 25.
Guests who will be on course include: Minister for Racing , Robert Hulls, Robert Hines, CEO, Racing Victoria Bernard Saundry, Chief Operating Officer, RVL, Brian MacDonald, CEO, NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE), Roy Higgins (who works with NMIT’s Equine Studies Department), and Sally Anne Marshall (CRV Ambassador).
